Toshiba has recently launched a new DVD player that they claim will enhance the image of a standard-def DVD. Priced at $149 Toshiba was careful not to compare it to Blu-ray directly. Having lost the format war to Blu-ray, Toshiba never embraced Blu-ray and decided not to offer a Blu-ray player of their own and instead worked on an upconverting DVD player. While demoing their new player Toshiba didn’t even compare their new player next to a Blu-ray player, instead side by side comparisons were done with a normal DVD player vs Toshiba’s new XD-E500 player.

It’s time to follow suit Toshiba, why offer an improved DVD player when a Blu-ray player can do the same thing? And play Blu-rays too!
