A new era of HDTV has just begun today. Mitsubishi has begun shipping out the new laser-powered LaserVue 65″ HDTV. The idea of laser-powered television sets has been around as wearly as 1966. Earlier this year, Mitsubishi demonstrated the LaserVue at the Las Vegas CES show and it got people talking. Now, Mitsubishi makes the LaserVue 65″ HDTV available to all consumers with a price tag of $6,999. The LaserVue is 10 inches thick, which is thick in comparison to modern HDTVs. But what makes this HDTV special is that it boasts a color gamut of over 200% of the BT.709 range. This range is twice as large as other current HDTVs. And for those who are worried that the LaserVue will drain a lot of power, apparently the LaserVue operates at 135 Watts. Mitsubishi has stated that they are working on a 72″ version of the LaserVue, but thereĀ  is no word on when it will be available.
