Another lawsuit awaiting for Sony Corp.
I guess putting the Blu-ray player in the Playstation 3 just opened up Pandora’s box for Sony Corp. Another lawsuit has been filed against Sony Corp. over its use of the blu-ray player in the Playstation 3. The company that is suing Sony Corp. is called Orinda Intellectual Properties, a company based out in California. Orinda is suing Sony Corp. for violating their patent, which was filed in 1995 by Hyundai Electronics Industries, for the creation of (get this!) “an optical disk-shaped recording medium comprising a plurality of tracks”. Orinda is hoping that Sony pulls out all of their blu-ray products, most specifically their Playstation 3 gaming console. Orinda is also hoping to get a royalty fee from all blu-ray products Sony has sold in the past. The lawsuit will be heard by East Texas judges, the same judges who ruled against Nintendo in their lawsuit last year. Nintendo was sued for their violations and use of motion-controlled technology. Nintendo had to pay Anascape Ltd. $21 million. Will Sony face the same music? We shall see.
