Enhance your viewing fantasies with DisplayPort
To all of you videophiles out there hugging your High Definition screens, we have the latest drug to enhance your visually fueled high. The wonderful drug is the latest video cabling technology known as DisplayPort. DisplayPort for those of you out of the know, is the newest thing to come out as a competitor of HDMI and DVI standard. DisplayPort was developed by VESA (Video and Electronics Standards Association), to be primarily used for display monitors, computers, and Home Theater systems. It is licence free and royalty free, making it free of the constrictions that come with proprietary technology.
It appears that DisplayPort will become the new standard for video cabling in years to come. Companies such as AMD, Analogix, Dell, Genesis Microchip, Hewlett-Packard, Hosiden Corporation, Integrated Device Technology, Intel, Lenovo, Luxtera, Molex, NVIDIA, NXP Semiconductors, Philips, Parade Technologies, Samsung, Quantum Data, Texas Instruments, and Tyco Electronics are in support of the DisplayPort.
It seems as though ATI will soon be making videocards supporting this compliance. This would have come earlier, if not for the merger of AMD and ATI in late 2006. So far they have released the 780G chipset and RV670 graphics cards with external DisplayPort transmitter.
In addition to ATI, Dell released the 3008WFP 30-inch (76 cm) and 2408WFP 24-inch (61 cm) Display Port monitors in January 2008.
Right now, this technology is in it’s first steps of being introduced. Don’t expect it to be mainstream like HDMI and DVI for a few years. However, if you really have the urge to an early adopter, then you can always check out the cables here.
